Professional Experience

After a 15-year career in sales and finance, including commercial and residential finance brokering and small business finance management, Kim returned to study law at James Cook University, graduating with Honours in 2013, and becoming admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in February 2014 and the High Court of Australia shortly thereafter. Kim was employed at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions before joining O’Reilly Stevens Lawyers in 2014. In 2024 Kim was conferred a Graduate Diploma of Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne.

Kim is an intellectual property and commercial lawyer, with particular expertise in Australian and international intellectual property law and business needs.

Kim works closely with Tom Stevens in intellectual property practice and undertakes matters in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the USA, and many other countries. Kim has worked in most aspects of intellectual property and in all aspects of trademark portfolio management, advice, licensing, opposition, and litigation. The majority of Kim’s practice centres on intellectual property matters in conjunction with general commercial, business, and property law, including asset protection and disposal, dispute resolution, litigation, leasing, and personal matters.

Kim has special interests in tourism, the arts and entertainment law, including music law, copyright, and trademarks. She enjoys research and advice work. Kim is passionate about the creative development and protection of her clients’ brands, including personal brands. She seeks to build and maintain long-term relationships and find modern, cost-effective solutions for clients in a rapidly changing legal and technological landscape.

Kim is also community-minded, having held a number of board positions, including for charitable organisations, and Kim regularly undertakes pro bono work.
